“The sadistic members of a villainous family return to their childhood home to terrorize the new home owners and their guests.” (IMDB)
I saw that this movie was in production a couple years ago and I got pretty excited about it (I get that way with any horror/suspense movie). Mother’s Day stars some C-listers of whom I know all of them cause I am that obsessed with movies: Rebecca De Mornay, Jaime King, Brianna Evigan, Shawn Ashmore, and Deborah Ann Woll. Unlike other remakes that have come out recently this one doesn’t just dive into the gore without developing the story which I am very thankful for. It had good story and character development, the gore was just right, I squirmed at some parts which bravo to them for making me do cause it isn’t easy. I don’t know why Jaime King doesn’t get more roles cause she is better than a lot of the actresses getting leading roles these days (I’m looking at you Kristen Stewart and Reese Witherspoon). Also, Rebecca De Mornay is amazing in this movie as a psycho version of Martha Stewart who I actually rooted for at some points.
The one thing I didn’t like about this movie is that it didn’t get released in North America! It had a wide release in the UK which is why I was able to view it online, so I went snooping around and found out that FINALLY it was being released here in Canada on Mother’s Day of 2012, YAY!
I give this movie a solid 8.5/10. The acting was good, the gore was minimal but perfectly used to not just be a giant stupid blood bath with no plot to it. I can’t wait to see it again in the theatre and add it to my Blu-Ray collection.
“A black ops super soldier seeks payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission.” (IMDB)
Tonight me and Nicole went and saw Haywire with Gina Carano, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas and Bill Paxton (did I get everyone?) I hadn’t heard any reviews so I had no idea what to expect and it turned out to be awesome.
This is the first movie for Gina Carano (the main character) and when she isn’t taking a swing at acting she is one of the top ranked female MMA fighters, so I wasn’t expecting too much from her acting but she was actually really good. The fight scenes were amazing (I mean, she does it for a living so what else should I have expected) and she did all her own stunts so it made it that much more believable. The action wasn’t crazy and high production which was actually kind of nice cause i’m sick of giant explosions and elaborate chase scenes, these ones were simple and effective. Did I mention the sick fight scenes?
This movie is a solid 7.5/10. It would have been an 8 but parts were kind of confusing. Otherwise it was superb
“The tale of Conan the Cimmerian and his adventures across the continent of Hyboria on a quest to avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his village.” (IMDB)
So I always rate movies after I am done watching them and like to pretend my opinion on the movie matters to other people so I am going to start writing short reviews of the movies I have watched on here.
Last night me and Britt watched the 2011 version of Conan the Barbarian with Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, and Rose McGowan. It started out pretty cool, I liked the setting and was pretty excited to watch it but it quickly took a turn for the worse. It was like the director didn’t fully think the movie through and it jumped around a lot. The acting was meh and the fight scenes were rather boring. The only redeeming quality was Rose McGowan cause I love her (thats a good reason right?)
Overall this movie gets a sad 3.5/10 for boring me and being kinda dumb.
If this past weekend was any indication of how the rest of 2012 is going to be, bring it on cause it was amazing. On friday we had an Ottawa reunion for A.Clement’s birthday and it was a blast in a glass. It really took me back to school and made me miss hanging out with them every day. Then on Saturday I did something I hadn’t done in a looooooong time: round 2. Spencer had a birthday bash at his cottage that happened to be Fresh Prince/Neon themed and it was wild to say the least. I think we ended up sleeping at around 5am after many drinks were consumed, one fight happened, and lots of drinking games. It was honestly one of my favorite weekends ever next to any wasaga weekend ;) here are some highlight pics!
I’m reading the third one right now and let me tell you, it is the new Harry Potter. I get chills every time I read, and this trailer blows my mind every time I watch it (which is often). Do yourself a favor and read this trilogy.
